Visakha Vimala Vidyalayam, Ukkunagaram has completed 35 years of its glorious existence. A glance of its growth through these years is quite befitting at this juncture. In the year 1984, when the Visakhapatnam Steel Project was under construction, the management decided to provide educational facilities for the children of its employees. Knowing well the yeoman services of the Diocese of Visakhapatnam in the field of education, the VSP Management approached Rt.Rev.Dr. K. Mariadas, MSFS,DD,JUD, the President of the Diocese of Visakhapatnam Society Limited, a society registered under the Societies Registration Act.No.XXI of 1860, and the then Bishop of Visakhapatnam Diocese, to establish, administer and run a Telugu Medium School. Bishop K. Mariadas responded positively to the invitation of the VSP Management. Being aware of the type of service that the Nirmala Sisters are doing for the total development and liberation of people, Bishop K. Mariadas requested Rev.Sr.Vincent K. the then Regional Superior of the Nirmala Society, to start this School at Ukkunagaram. The request was answered by sending four sisters namely: Sr. Adeline, Sr. Ann e, Sr. Linet and Sr. Martha P. to Ukkunagaram. The first meeting between the representatives of VSP and the Diocese was held on 25 th May 1984. Rt. Rev.Dr. K. Mariadas – the Bishop of Visakhapatnam, Rev.Fr. Thomas Pulickal – Secretary –cum- Treasurer of the Society and Rev.Fr. K. Joji Babu – Representative of Educational Council of the Diocese attended the meeting. The Company was represented by the then Dy.CPM – Sri. C.L. Narayana. In that meeting it was proposed to form a Local Managing Committee. The beginners Sr. Adeline and Sr. Anne took the lead facing the new realities and initial difficulties. The guidance and support of Bishop Mariadas and Fr. Thomas – the Correspondent of the new school were of great help and support to the sisters. The School was given the name Visakha
Vimala Vidyalayam.
In the year 2010 English Medium LKG, UKG and I std . was started with 150 children. Gradually strength was increased classes opened till X class Recognition also granted. At present (2019-20) we have 1291 students in English Medium. We thank the Almighty God who used us as His instruments to bring up the children of VSP and Non-VSP employees. We are grateful to the VSP authorities for all the supports and assistance. Having a vision before us and a target of grooming our students for Equality, Fraternity, Freedom and Justice have been realized today. We took as a challenge to contribute our mite for the building up of the nation. We have the joy of our dream being transformed into a reality in course of the 35 years of existence of our school.
